Managing Photoshop Brushes Tutorial

The use and application of brushes are found in many designs. Not only can you create your own brushes but there are many free brushes available on line. If you are someone who uses a lot of brushes in your designs, you need to find a way to effectively manage your collection. This brief tutorial will provide tips for managing your brushes in Photoshop.

Loading a Collection of Brushes

1. Choose load brushes from the fly out menu in the brushes panel.

2. Navigate to the file and load.

3. Brushes will appear at the bottom of the brushes panel.

Moving Brushes or Consolidating Brushes

Consolidating or combining similar brushes into a library is not difficult.

1. From the brushes panel click on the fly out menu, then click on load brushes.

2. Navigate to the brushes you would like to consolidate or move into one library. Append the brushes, do not replace the existing brushes. Repeat this process for all the brush libraries you would like to consolidate.

Once loaded the brushes will appear towards the bottom of the brushes panel.

3.Command click (on a MAC) / control click (on a PC) on the brushes you don't need or want in your new library.

Remove Unwanted Brushes

4. Once you have removed all the unwanted brushes, you will see a listed of the consolidated brushes in the brushes panel.

Then click on the fly out menu in the brushes panel and select save brushes.

5. Navigate to the folder where you want to save your new consolidated brushes. Name your brush library and click on save.

1. Select Preset Manager from the brushes panel fly out menu.

2. Click on a brush and drag to the new location. Once you have completed re-arranging your brushes click on done.
